NYX vs Maybelline Shadow/Liner Pencils

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil is my favorite eyeshadow/liner pencil to use. The color glides on your eyes easily without tugging on your lids. They come in over a dozen colors and is inexpensive at only $3/ $3.50 at a store. The colors are pigmented and last through out the day. These pencils can be used alone as an eyeshadow or liner as well as a base for your make up.

Maybelline Cool Effect Shadow/ Liner were the first pencil of this time that I used. You can get them at a drugstore for around $5- $6 a pencil. I didn't think that this pencil applied as smoothly as the NYX pencil. I would have to warm up the tip before I applied. The colors came up soft when I applied unless you're using one of the darker shades. They come in over a dozen colors and have a slight shimmer. Though both Maybelline & NYX pencils have close to the same amount of different shades, the NXY pencils have a wider variety of colors. I would use this pencil also as a shadow, liner, or base.

Coastal Scents 88 Palettes

I recently bought the 88 Palettes from Coastal Scents. The Matte Makeup Palette and the Ultra Shimmer Palette. I had heard so much on it on youtube so I had to get it. They cost $18.95 for the 88 Matte Makeup Palette and $19.95 for the 88 Ultra Shimmer Palette. I was surprised on how fast they shipped them. I got it 2 days after I ordered it.
As far as the Palettes themselves... the colors are about the size of a dime. They are vibrant so you don't have to pack too much in order to make an impact. When you place a brush to them, it picks up the color easily. A person can do a lot with these palettes. There's so many colors to use and blend together. There's also a large mirror on the case with 2 sponge tip applicators. The case is also thin for easy storage.
With everything you get, it's definitely worth it. Its of great quality yet inexpensive.

Smashbox Cream Liner

I always like to buy makeup palettes before I buy the actual version of a product. I recently bought Smashbox Cream Liner Palette. This palette cost $32 dollars at Sephora and come with the 10 shades of Smashbox's cream liners and a small synthetic brush. The case is a thin and compact with a large mirror. The size makes it easy to carry around. Eventhough it look like there isn't much of the cream liner given, there is enough to last for a while (depending on use). When I first tried the liners I thought it smooth to apply and I just used the brush that was given. You do have really coat the brush with the cream liner in order to apply the right amount to your lids. I found the darker colors ( black, blue, dark brown, green) showed up very will but the softer colors really weren't vibrant enough to make a difference. I do take to a count that I have a medium skin tones and so those color probably don't show because of that. I'm might try to use the softer colors as a eyeshadow base instead of a liner. When I did use it at a liner it lasted pretty well for half the day but I could tell that it was starting to fade. After a 12 hour day the liner faded to where you could only see the outline of it. But the colors don't really smudge once it dries.
I might not buy this product again but I might buy the full version of some of the colors. They cost $22 each and contains 0.06 oz of a liner.

Cover Girl Eye Enhancers 3 & 4 Kit Shadows

I was looking for some bright colors for summer when I came across these 2 shadow kits at Rite Aide. They are normal around $4-5 but they were on sale for Buy One Get One. Cover Girl claims They blend effortlessly to bring your eyes out beautifully, without overshadowing. The shadows come in a small, compact, plastic case with a double ended sponge tip applicator.
I was really hoping to have fun with these colors but they weren't as vibrant as they seemed once I applied it to my lids. I was greatly disappointed. The only ones to really show was the blue & teal color on the tropical fusion kit. The rest were not very pigmented. I picked the bold colors from all of the kits so the more neutral and tone down colors probably wouldn't be any better if these didn't show.

Smooth Away

Everyone has probably seen the commercials on tv for the new hair removal system. When I was in Rite Aid I saw that they were selling it. Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to get it. After I arrived home, I checked out my new buy. The kit came with 4 large pads, 4 small pads, large pad holder, small pad holder, and a plastic pouch to hold everything. To use smooth away you simply take a pad and stick it to it's holder. I made sure to read the instructions so that I was using it properly. I tired it several time on my legs and it didn't do anything for me. My b/f was nice enough to let me experiment on him and it sorta worked on him. It took off some of the hair on his legs but not as smooth as it claims. The difference between the two of us was that he had longer thicker hair on his legs ( what can you expect? he's a guy) and I have think fine hair. Either way this product is a bust. I'm glad it only cost me $9.99 because more then that it would have been a waste of money.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper

I have been duped! I recently bought the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper (that was a mouth full) and I was shocked by what I got because I already had it. It's called Covergirl Lash Blast. I had been seeing the Max Factor ads all over and I finally gave in and bought it. As soon as I opened the box the packaging was all the same except it was in a black tube instead of orange. The Max Factor mascara cost a more then Covergirl by $2-3. I bought this mascara for $9.99 at Ulta.
As for the actual product itself. It works great. It comes in a 0.44 fl. oz. tube with a plastic bristle applicator. It goes on smooth on my lashes without clumping. It last all day and held my lashes to a curl. There was no flaking and doesn't weight your lashes down. Just like the Lash Blast, it gave me volume because the bristles separate my lashes. I didn't really feel thickened my lashes or gave me that much length. So it really doesn't live up to the name lash plumper.
If you like the Lash Blast you will like the Lash Plumper, because it's the same thing. I would return it but I was already planning to get another Lash Blast mascara. I use the Lash Blast for ever day use so now that I have this one I won't have to buy another mascara for a while.
Even though I like the product, I'm still disappointed because I was expecting something new.

TreSemme Thermal Creations

I've recently bought TRESemme thermal creations from Ulta. They were on sale so I bought the entire line except for the shampoo & conditioner. They claim that thermal creations is a vitamin-enriched, salon quality styling products are specially formulated to work with your hot irons and blow dryers to get the latest salon styles you want, while protecting your hair from heat damage. I'm always skeptical of products but I'm always willing to give a try. The line, aside from the shampoo & conditioner, consist of a straightening gel, curl activator spray, heat tamer spray, and volumizing mousse. I've used all of them except the volumizing mousse.

Heat Tamer protects your hair from heat & friction. Simply spray the product all over your hair. You can use it on wet 0r dry hair before exposing your hair to heat from a blow dryer or iron. I think the product works. Usually after blow drying my hair it tends to puff up from the heat. Not when I used the heat tamer. It makes my hair more manageable and keeps it from looking fried.

Straightening Gel helps to straighten your hair while adding shine. You take a good amount and rub between your hands to activate the product then run through your hair, making sure to evenly distribute throughout out your hair. The product looks like a gel version of hair polish. When I first applied the product to my hair I was scared that it would weight my hair down and make it look oily & greasing. But once I took my flat iron to my hair the gel disappeared leaving only my now straighten hair with added shine. Usually after straightening my hair I have to apply a polish/ serum but not when I use this gel. My hair already has that shine and makes my hair look healthy. It's like a two-in-one. I love it.

Curl Activator gives a flexible hold of curls with the heat of a curling iron. Simply spray dry hair from root to tip with the activator, blow dry the spray to set for one minute, then curl hair as usual. I had the most doubt with this product. My hair does not hold curls. I usually have to spray a section of hair with hair spray, curl, then spray again. With the activator I didn't have to do that. I only sprayed hair spray after I was done curling my hair to give that lasting hold. I was very surprised.

Too Faced Mascaras

A few weeks ago I went to Ulta looking for a new mascara.  They had a special with Too Faced mascara that were 2 mascaras for $19.5o.  I figured it was good deal since it cost that much for a single mascara.  In the packaged came Too Faced Lash Injection Mascara & Too Faced Pin Point Mascara.  Here's what I thought about them:

Too Faced Lash Injection
The Lash Injection mascara comes in a fat tube.  It has a medium length wand with thick bristles.  The mascara is 0.45 fl. oz. and comes in two colors; deep black and hot chocolate (dark brown).  It's waterproof to prevent smudging or smearing but will wash off with soap and water.  It claims to be thickening and give length, and it does do that but doesn't hold a curl too well.  Also if you put more than two or three layers of this mascara your lash will start to clump.  When you use this product you will notice a citrus type of smell.  This was the first time I've ever had a mascara with a scent but I think it's the jojoba & vitamin E that they add to the formula to help condition you lashes.

Review
Pro: Definitely gives you extremely thick & lengthen lashes
Con: Clumps with too many layers
Buy Again: Yes

Overall: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Too Faced Lash Injection Pinpoint Mascara
The Pinpoint Mascara uses the same formula as the regular Lash Injection.  The main difference between the two is that the pin point has very short bristles.  They're so short they barely thicker then the wand.  Because they are so short, it helps to separate each lash giving you that volume.  The Pinpoint is also about half the amount as the Lash Injection (0.25 fl. oz.)  Everything else is pretty much the same but doesn't clump as easily as the Lash Injection.

Review
Pro: Gives you volume

Overall: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

FYI:  You can use both of these mascaras together to create dramatic effects.
For False Eyelash Effect:
1. Coat both top & bottom lashes with 1-2 coats of "Lash Injection" mascara.  Using the brush, wiggle from the lash roots to tips.
2. Apply 1-2 coats of "Pinpoint" mascara from the center of the lashes to tips.

For Lash Extension Effect:
1. Coat both top & bottom lashes with 1-2 coats of "Pinpoint" mascara.  Using it's micro-precision brush, wiggle from the lash roots to tip.
2.  Tip lashes with 1-2 coats of "Lash Injection" mascara.  In a feathering motion from center of the lashes, pull wand straight out beyond lash tips for a "stretching" effect.

Liquid Liner

I don't have the steadiest of hand to deal with a brush for liquid liners. That's why I like usingfelt tip applicator. Here's the two I've tried recently...

L'oreal Telescopic Precision Liquid Eye Liner

I bought this eye liner because I had the mascara and I thought I'd try the eye liner. It has a stift felt tip, giving you more control, but has an angle to it so if you have to make sure you're holding it a certain way to apply it. The angle does help to make a precise line but you just have to make sure you're holding it the right way. The liquid liner goes on pretty smooth but it doesn't dry right away. There had been time where I blinked before it had dried and I smudged the liner. However, once it dries it last for the whole day without melting or smudging off. The other draw back that I saw was after a couple of use the tip applicator seemed to start shedding pieces, like there was lint on it. It was a bit annoying. For the most part I did like this eye liner. I think it came in 2 or 3 colors and it cost around $8-9 at any store.

Maybelline Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner
I bought eye liner as a replacement to my L'Oreal liner.  It also has felt tip for easy application but it's not angled like the L'Oreal brand.  It simply comes to a point.  It apply smoothly onto my eye and dries fairly quickly.  It does last me all day without smudging.  It claims that it's waterproof but it's really not.  If you got water on your face or started crying, it will start to run but not heavily.  The water will simply smudge the liner.  This liquid liner is the one I used all the time.  It comes in two colors; black and brown, and cost around $6-7 at a store.

Con: Not that waterproof

Setting the Foundation

These are the two foundations I have right now...

Maybelline Mineral Power Liquid Foundation
I never bought foundation from Maybelline before until I saw this one. It was something new, it said it's a mineral makeup, and contained spf 18. I thought it would be a good buy & also good for my skin. I bought it from Walmart between $7-9. It comes in a 1 fl oz. pastic tube with a tip end. I like that it has that tip end so you can control how much you want to use. It come in 2 different shade light, medium & dark with a range of color in each shade that's numbered. For example the foundation I'm using is Medium 3. The foundation provides a light to medium coverage. While I was using this product it never caused me to breakout. The foundation did seem to fade as the day went. I have combination skin so I don't know if it's because I can get oily that the foundation didn't really stay. It's a good product if you don't need full coverage.

Pro: Light weight & won't clog your pores to cause breakouts

Revlon Colorstay Foundation (Combination/Oily Skin)
After using Maybelline Mineral Power I wanted to find a full coverage foundation. I found this Revlon Foundation in Ulta for $10.50. The reason I bought this particular one was it a full coverage foundation, it contained spf 6, and they had a line formulated combination/oily skin (which is what I am) and then another for normal/dry skin. It comes in a 1 fl. oz. glass tube container in serveral shades. Revlon claims that it will give you full coverage that last for 16 hours 7 that it's transfer resistant. I'm not sure if it does last that long but for me it stayed longer then the Maybelline brand. It provides such great coverage for me that I don't even use concealer with it and it still feels light weight. This is my favorite foundation by far.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Another great eye shadow primer is Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I got mine from Sephora of $17. The primer comes in a blue-green 0.35 oz tube that has a tip on the end. It prevents fading, creasing, & melting of your eyeshadow. You only need to small pin point of the primer to cover your lid. I think this product really works well. I've been using it lately and it keeps my eyeshadow looking like new all day long. And since it's a squeeze tube you know you can get every bit of it till the end unlike the Urban Decay Primer Potion. The only think negative that I did notice with this is, if you don't use it for a while or you just bought it, the product might sererate and settle. It's not a big deal because you can squeeze up & down the tube (while the lid is on) to make sure its mixed. It's a must have.

Eyelash Beautiful

A must in every makeup bag should be mascara. Here's my take on two of them...

Lash Blast (Waterproof) in one of there newest line of mascara from Covergirl. It comes in a fat orange tube with a bristle application wand. You can find it at any drugstore for around $6-7. I do like this mascara. The bristles separate my eyelashes giving me volume. The mascara goes on smoothly that you don't have to keep reapplying and won't weight down your lashes. I use an eye lash curler before applying this mascara and it holds the shape all day long. It doesn't flake, run, or smudge. The downfall of the Lash Blast is that the wand is unnecessarily big. It's so fat that if you're not careful you could smudge mascara on you face. It's especially hard on the inner and outer corner of your eyes. Also, when they say waterproof they meant it. This mascara doesn't budge. That can be a good or bad thing. It's hard to take it off even with makeup remover. But this is a great mascara otherwise.

Pro: Great Volume, Long Lasting

L'Oreal Double Extend Mascara is my newest mascara. I wanted to see if what they were advertising was actually true. They claim that it gives you 80% more length and volume. The mascara is a fat tube with two ends. One end is the the white base/extender (step 1) and the other side is the colored mascara (step 2). The brushes on either end are short, thin, and has covered with bristles. I bought it for around $9-10 and it can be found in any drugstore.
When I first tried this product, it did extend past my lashes when I applied step 1. The mascara was ok. It was a bit gloopy which made it hard to apply and cover the white base. It made my eyelashes stick together and I had to take my eyebrow brush to seperate them. The product also claims that it won't budge till you wash it off with water. That's very much true. I little might come off with makeup remover but it won't really come off until you wash it water. In the end end it did lengthen my lashes and gave me volume but it's the best product I've come across.

Pro: Does lengthen and volumize

Sally Hansen Airbrush Spray Makeup

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty has a new aerosol foundation.  It's a small 1.0 oz spray can that comes in the 5 shades; light, medium to light, medium, medium to dark, & dark.  They say that it's good for all skin types can contains olive oil extract, chamomile, & vitamin A.  Things that are good for your skin.  I first saw it when I was shopping at Ulta and I thought it was an interesting concept.  I actually wanted to get the Dior Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation.  This seemed like an inexpensive alternative and would give me a chance to play around with it so I know how I would use the Dior brand.  Dior cost $60 and Sally Hansen is only $13.99.
The  directions state: Shake Well. Spray directly into hand and apply on face. I really didn't like that idea so I sprayed a small amount onto my blending sponge and applied it that way.  The makeup is very light on your face, as if you weren't wearing any makeup.  It provides a light to medium coverage but you will definately need to use a concealer because it won't cover any dark marks that you may have.  If you prefer to use a brush, I've also used the spray with a kabuki brush ( you can use any large surface brush).  I spray amount directly onto the brush, stipple the brush on my face, then blend in a circular motion.  Because the foundation is so light it doesn't ruin the brush and I can still get an even application.
I really like this spray foundation.  It won't look like you're wearing any makeup and gives you that airbrushed look.

Glossy

These are my personal favorite lip glosses that you can ealy find at any drugstore or shopping center.

Maybelline Shine Seduction Glossy Lip Color is a smooth, shiny lip gloss. It comes in over a dozen shades and cost around $7-8. It comes as a silver tube with a twist dial bottom. Quick Dry Nail Polish

These are two quick dry nail polish lines. They say they dry in a minute. I've never really timed it but they do dry pretty fast.

O.P.I has a branch of nail color line that I guess is more youth orientented call Nicole by O.P.I.  Nic's Sticks by O.P.I. is part of that line but is a quick dry nail polish.  There's only a dozen or so colors so you don't have too many options.  You can find them in most drugstore as well as Target & Walmart for around $6.99.  It comes in a tube that you pump and the color comes out at the tips where there is brush. Each tube contains 0.135 fl. oz. of polish.  Because it's such a small amount you will probably get a few uses for them. They are good for quick,  last minute nails. The stick as very easy to use and the color comes out very smoothly.  However, the brush isn't the softest so it might streak.  You have to becareful of that.  With their size and shape they are very portable.

Maybelline Express Finish is a quick dry nail polish that they say dries in 50 sec.  It comes in over 20 different colors.  It cost between $4 to $5 at most drugstore, etc.  The bottle is 0.5 fl. oz like other nail polish unlike the Nic's Stick that's in a tube.  I use about 2 layers when I use this product and allow it to dry between layers.  Once you do one hand, by the time you move to the other it's already drying.  There's no long wait.  This is a great product for those who are always on the go.  Unless, you work a lot with your hand or bit your nails the polish will last for days without chipping.

Eye Concealers from Benefit

Benefit Lemon-Aid is lemon colored correction concealer/primer for your eyelids. You can get it at Sephora for $20. It's a 0.9 oz product that comes in a compact container. It covers any discoloration and gives you an even eyelid making you look more awake. Because it also works as a primer it makes your eye make-up vibrant and last longer. Other primers don't cover up any discoloration on your lids.
When you first use Lemon-Aid you want to keep your finger on the product to slowly melt it on to your finger because the cream is thick. (A brush wouldn't work as well because of this) You just dab Lemon-Aid on your eyelids with your finger and blend it in. Pat the product all over your eyelid to evenly distribute. Try not to rub on the product or it looks cakey. You can easily see the difference.

Benefit Boi-ing is another concealer that helps hide dark circles under your eye, redness, and other discoloration. I use this for any marks/ discoloration on my face and not just my eyes. I bought mine at Sephora for $18. It's 0.1 oz product that comes in a thin tub/jar but a little goes a long way. It comes in three shades; light, medium, and dark. Boi-ing is long lasting and will help conceal those imperfections all day. Just dab boi-ing to the area and blend. It's best to use your finger because your natural body heat makes the product more pliable. Like Lemon-Aid you want to pat and not rub this product on to get the proper effect.
